Harmonious Resistance
LYRICS
won't submit to you
Fuck your words I don't care
I'm without a doubt
you are what you put out
you get what you take from
everyone who comes to you
they'll try to own you
they'll try to take from you
won't submit to you
fuck your words I don't care
you must draw your lines
draw them bright and wide
it can be black and white
try to mess me around
I'll stand my ground
not scared to throw down
won't submit to you
fuck your words I don't care
I'm not trying to say
you should always have your way
just beware of those who say
it's for your own good
I know what's best for you
you know I love you
won't submit to you
fuck your words I don't care
THE STORY
My dad has a strong personality and early on I developed a habit of diminishing my needs to better serve his. As such, I have behavior patterns that emerge when I meet people similar to him. I was almost 30 when I finally realized this and rebelled against him, and that part of me died which was painful but ultimately left me with more freedom and independence, which I cherish.
”Harmonious Resistance” is that first point of rebellion and it presents a cold, clinical view of relationships. A warning for those in similar situations who have not yet become aware of them.
There's no clear answer for this. I also realize co-dependence creates incredibly strong bonds, and the common language of healthy vs non-healthy fails to capture the nuance of these situations.
Personally I strive to be self-aware enough to notice my own patterns which helps me move forward and develop healthier relationships.
